Museum Project: German Harmonica and Accordion Museum 25th Anniversary

Birthday Concert and Benefit Auction

Saturday November 5th 2016, 3 - 4.15 pm

In 2016 the German Harmonica and Accordion Museum moved to new premises in Bau V, a listed building on the former Hohner factory site. This year also marks the museum's 25th anniversary since opening to the public in 1991. On Saturday November 5th at 3pm, Harmonica Masters Workshops instructors will give a short benefit concert to mark the anniversary and raise donations for the refinancing of the newly modernized and enlarged museum. Admission is free.

The performance will be followed by a fundraising auction of 25 selected pieces from the museum's collection, which will be sold to the highest bidder. Unusual historic instruments and other rare items pertaining to the history of the harmonica will be on offer for the first time. A unique opportunity for harmonica lovers to bid for vintage instruments and documents in a location which is steeped in their history. All proceeds will go to the museum.

The showpieces of the auction include:

A Hohner Centenary Richter harmonica from 1957 (special Marine Band model) in original case

Further special edition Marine band models, some gold-plated

A unique “Wender” model consisting of 6 “Little Lady” harmonicas in different keys, built by master craftsman Günter Bayer

An original advertising leaflet for the Beatles Harmonica campaign from 1964

Benefit concert and auction are open to participants of the Harmonica Masters Workshops and invited guests only!

Background Information:

Museum curator Martin Häffner and his team have invested an enormous amount of time and energy in moving the museum to its new quarters in “Bau V” on the former Hohner factory site, re-opening on May 10th 2016. The reactions of visitors have been extremely positive. However, despite various donations and subsidies, the new museum could not be financed without taking out a loan. In order to service this loan, the museum is more than ever dependent on contributions and benefit campaigns.
